PROMOTION OF SPORTS AND GAMES IN SCHOOLS
RURAL
SPORTS TOURNAMENT
The Scheme of Rural
Sports Programme was launched by the Department of
Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, in the year 1970- 71 with a
view to broad-basing games and sports and to tap the hidden talent in rural
area. The scheme is being operated through the Sports Authority of India.
Objective:

-To generate sports consciousness and
mass involvement of rural youth in sports activities
-To
strengthen sports at the grass root level.
-To
provide opportunities to rural youth to join main stream of competitions
-To
spot talent for further nurturing.

Tournaments
|
For
national level tournament a financial assistance of Rs.
2.50 lacs per discipline is made available to a
host State for organising the tournament.
This includes boarding and lodging charges @ Rs.
60/- per person per day and charges for sports equipment, ground
preparation and technical officials fee. In
addition, the expenditure on medals, shields, certificates and utility
prizes to Gold medal winners etc. is incurred by the SAI on behalf of Govt.
of India.

Eligibility
|
The
teams selected on the basis of state level competitions participate in All India Rural Sports Tournament. Other
eligibility conditions for participation at national level are as
under:-
-Participants must be working/studying and residing
in rural areas for the last two years.
-
-Participants should not
have taken part earlier in open State/National level competition other than
rural sports.
- Age of the participants should be
below 16 years of age as on 31st December in the year of
participation.

Spotting of Talented
Players
|
The experts after observing the
National level tournaments spot the talented players and submit their
lists. These lists are circulated to the states
sports depts., for giving special attention to these players
and providing them necessary facilities. These lists are also
circulated to SAI Regional Centres for
considering their admissions to the SAI Centres
|
SPORTS FESTIVAL FOR THE NORTH EASTERN REGION.
The Scheme of North East Sports
Festival was launched by Department of youth Affairs & Sports in the year
1986-87 and being operated through the Sports Authority of India.
Objective:

eastern states

capital to the venue of the festival to participants and officials.

a day before a day after the competitions @ Rs.100/- per person per day.

Medals and shields for individual and team events.

Trophies for the overall best place and the second best place.
- Merit
certificates to the winners of first three places in individual and team
event and participation certificates to all the participants including
officials.

Winners of Gold Medal in individual and team events in the festival are
awarded utility prizes.
-
Financial assistance upto Rs.1 lac is given to the host State for the purchase of
sports equipment.

Eligibility
|
- No
age restriction the idea being that the best available sports
men and sports women in each event should be selected to participate for each
state covered under the scheme
-
Participants must be resident of the state which they propose to represent
in the festival for the last five years Residence certificate is required
to be produced
|

NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL FOR WOMEN
The origin of National
Sports Festival for Women dates back to 1975 when the festival was organised as a part of the celebrations connected with
the International Womens year. Considering
the impact the festival made in arousing sports consciousness amongst women
in the country, the Govt. of India decided to make it an annual feature.

PROMOTION OF SPORTS AND GAMES IN SCHOOLS
The scheme for Promotion of Sports and Games in
Schools was launched by Govt. of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports
in 1986 and reviewed subsequently in 1992 with a view of raise the standards
of sports at school level in the country and to encourage participation in
inter-school competitions
Objective:

provide incentive and to promote sports and games
amongst the school children in the country.

team for participating in the National Level competition.(Rs.30,000/- per
discipline)

-National Level
Tournaments
|
1. Rs. 2.00 lacs
per discipline at national level tournament to the host state.
2. The school that perform the best
in the national level tournament will be given an award of Rs. 1.00 lac along with a
Rolling Trophy.
|
Eligibility
|
a) The participant must be enrolled
as a student in schools recognized by the State Government/Union
Territory
b)
The age of the
participants should be below 16 years as on 31st December of
that year.
c) Each
district would conduct the competitions in
all the above said ten disciplines in which Athletics is mandatory.
The district would add any other sports discipline on the basis of their
popularity, specialization and traditions of the district.
d) The scheme does not put any restriction on organizing inter-school tournament in the disciplines other
than identified ones in the district. However, only the
identified discipline would qualify for financial support under the
scheme. The State and national level tournament would be organized in
all the 10 sports disciplines
mentioned above.
