POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN SPORTS MEDICINE (PGDSM)

 The Faculty of Sports Sciences which was established in 1983 at this Institute is organizing every year a two year Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Medicine for MBBS Doctors. This Diploma is affiliated with Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot (India) and is recognized by the Medical Council of India.

DURATION
2 Years

ELIGIBILITY
Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS examination from any of the Indian/Foreign university recognized by Medical Council of India), one year compulsory rotatory internship.

DESIRABLE
M.D./M.S. in Physiology/General Medicine/Orthopaedics/Surgery.

REGISTRATION

Candidate should have obtained permanent registration with the Medical Council of India OR any of the State Medical Councils OR should obtain the same within one month of the date of admission.  Foreign national or NRI has to obtain their Post Graduation study registration from Medical Council of India.

STIPEND

All PGDSM students will receive Rs.22,000/- per month in 1st year and Rs.24,000/- per month in 2nd year.  The in-service/sponsored candidates will not receive any stipend.

NO. OF SEATS

Six  (General = 4, SC-1, ST/OBC -1).  (If reserved seats are not filled, will be transferred to General Category).


SELECTION

Admission is made on the basis of rank obtained in the All India Sports Medicine Post Graduate Entrance Test (SMPGET) and Interview. Interview carries 50 marks.

MERIT LIST

Based on the mark obtained in SMPGET and Interview, Institute will declare a list of the successful candidates, in order of merit.

MEDIUM English only.

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION
Theory: Through lectures, clinical discussions, seminars, case presentations, assignments.

Practical: Rotatory internship in Govt. Medical College, Patiala in Medicine, Orthopaedics, Surgery and Anaesthesia. Providing medical cover to sports persons during National Coaching Camps, National level competitions and attending to sports persons injured during training at the Institute apart from conducting various sport scientific laboratory tests for evaluation of the functional and reserve capacities of sportspersons.

ATTENDANCE Students of DSM Course require minimum of 85% attendance.

HOLIDAYS Sunday, IInd Saturdays and Central Government Gazetted holidays

PRIVATE PRACTICE

Private practice, or employment in any other hospital, by the students, during the PGDSM tenure, is strictly prohibited.
