DIPLOMA COURSE IN SPORTS COACHING

 

Sports Coaches training was started at Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Patiala in 1961. Over the years academic courses were also started at Banglore, Calcutta and Gandhinagar 15411 Coaches including 507 foreign students have graduated from the four academic centres, so far. The Diploma Course in Sports Coaching is now conducted at Patiala, Bangalore and Calcutta.

DURATION:
1 Year (July-May)

ELIGIBILITY:

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Bachelors a Degree (3 years) in Arts/Science/Commerce of any other faculty from any recognized Indian or foreign university.
OR
10+2 level of education for medal winners in Asian Games/Championships/Commonwealth Games/Championships/World Championships (Senior Sections only)/Olympic Games.
OR
10+2 level of education for candidates from North East Region/Andaman & Nicobar only

SPORTS ACHIEVEMENTS

            At least two times participation in Inter-University Competitions
            OR
            At least two times participation in Senior National Championships/National Games
            OR
            At least two times participation in Inter Railways/Inter Police Competitions
            OR
            Gold or Silver Medal in All India Inter University/Junior or Senior National Championships
            OR
            Participation in Asian Games/Asian Championship/Commonwealth Games/Commonwealth Championship/World Championship/Olympic Games

 

SPORTS ACHIEVEMENTS FOR NORTH EASTERN REGION ONLY

        Any of the above mentioned achievements
        OR
        One time participation in North East Sports Festival
        OR
        One time participation in Junior National Championships  OR One time participation in Inter University

NOTE:
Participation in one Senior National/Inter University/Inter Services/Inter Police Games/Inter Railways competitions shall have equivalence among each other.     However, the participation in these competitions should be in two different financial years


AGE:
i)          In general category between 20-35 years on 1st July of the year of admission with relaxation of upto 3 months in upper or lower age limit.

ii)         Upper age limit is relaxable for 3 years in case of International players who have participated in Asian Games/Championships/Commonwealth Games/Championships/World Championships/World Cup/Olympic Games.

iii)        Upper age limit upto 3 years can also be relaxed for the candidates who are permanent employees of the state or Centre Government or autonomous bodies of the government and are sponsored by these organizations having participated at least 3 times in Senior National Championship with above mentioned qualifications

iv)          Upper age limt relaxable upto 3 years for candidates belonging to Schedule castes/Schedule tribes/Most Backward Area



ADMISSION TEST:
Candidate seeking admission to Diploma Course in Sports Coaching shall have to undergo the following tests:-Theory: General Knowledge and the knowledge in the sports disciplines opted. Practical: Proficiency in skills and tactics of the specialized sports (wherever applicable) Interview: Personality, power of expressions, knowledge.

SELECTION:
Selection of candidates will be done on the basis of educational qualification, sports achievements and performance in tests.

NOTE:
(i) Final admission to the course will be subject to medical fitness of the candidate.
(ii) Decision of selection committee will be final and binding.

ACADEMIC SESSION:
Ist Semester: 1st week of July - 3rd week of December.
IInd Semester: 2nd week of January – 15th May

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION: English & Hindi

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION:
Theory: Through lectures, discussions, seminars, paper readings, projects, films and video analysis and assignments.

Practical: Participation in practical classes, conduct of coaching classes, organizing competitions and officiating.

ATTENDANCE: A student is required to attend all classes. He/She is not permitted to take any leave except in emergency cases. 85% attendance is essential.

HOLIDAYS: Sundays, Second Saturdays and Central Government Gazetted holidays
