DIPLOMA COURSE IN SPORTS COACHING

Sports Coaches training was started at Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Patiala in 1961. Over the years academic courses were also started at Bangalore, Calcutta and Gandhinagar 16882 Coaches including 507 foreign students have graduated from the four academic centres, so far. The Diploma Course in Sports Coaching is now conducted at Patiala, Bangalore and Calcutta.

ELIGIBILITY

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

CATEGORY ‘A’

I) Educational Qualifications

  Minimum Bachelor’s Degree(3 years) from recognized/Foreign University

 

ii) Sports Achievement

Two time participation in Inter University(Zonal) competitions/Senior National Championship/ National Games/Inter Services, Inter Railways, All India Police Games/Junior International competition/once medal winner in School Games/Junior National Championship.

 

CORRIGENDUM

One time medal winner in School Games/Junior National Champion should be read as “One time medal winner in above categories also.”

 

 

CATEGORY ‘B’

I) Educational Qualifications

  10+2 /Matriculation

 

ii) Sports Achievement

    Participation in Asian Games/Common Wealth Games / Senior Asian  Championship/ Olympic Games/ Senior World Championships

 

 

CATEGORY ‘C’

I) Educational Qualifications

   10+2  for candidates from North East Region & Andaman Nicobar Island.

 

ii) Sports Achievement

    At least one time participation in Senior National Championship or Medal Winner in North East Festivals.

 

Age in all categories

 20-35 years as on 1st July of the year of admission.(Relaxable up to 03 years in upper age for International players (Asian, Common Wealth ,  Olympic Games, World Championships SC/ST & OBC).

 

 

Duration of the course : 1st July to 15th May

 

SELECTION OF CANDIDATES

             The selection of candidates for admission will be carried out through tests and interview to assess the following abilities:

 

Theory     : General Knowledge and the knowledge in the specialized sports disciplines opted.

Practical   : Proficiency in skills and tactics of specialized sports (wherever applicable)

Interview  : Personality, power of expression, Knowledge etc.

ADMISSION TEST
Candidate seeking admission to Diploma Course in Sports Coaching shall have to undergo the following tests:-Theory: General Knowledge and the knowledge in the sports disciplines opted. Practical: Proficiency in skills and tactics of the specialized sports (wherever applicable) Interview: Personality, power of expressions, knowledge.

SELECTION
Selection of candidates will be done on the basis of educational qualification, sports achievements and performance in tests.

NOTE
(i) Final admission to the course will be subject to medical fitness of the candidate.
(ii) Decision of selection committee will be final and binding.

ACADEMIC SESSION
Ist Semester: 1st week of July - 3rd week of December.
IInd Semester: 2nd week of January – 15th May

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION English & Hindi

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION
Theory: Through lectures, discussions, seminars, paper readings, projects, films and video analysis and assignments.

Practical: Participation in practical classes, conduct of coaching classes, organizing competitions and officiating.

ATTENDANCE A student is required to attend all classes. He/She is not permitted to take any leave except in emergency cases. 85% attendance is essential.

HOLIDAYS Sundays, Second Saturdays and Central Government Gazetted holidays
